Having the student rephrase the information they have learned is an effective method to confirm their understanding of a complex topic. This technique, often referred to as paraphrasing or summarizing, requires the student to process the information deeply enough to express it in their own words. By doing this, the student demonstrates not only recall of the information but also comprehension and the ability to apply concepts in a different context.

When a student is able to articulate their understanding through rephrasing, it indicates that they have internalized the material and can connect it to their prior knowledge, which is essential for mastering complex subjects. This method also allows the instructor to identify any misconceptions or gaps in understanding, providing an opportunity for further clarification and guidance.

In contrast, relying solely on facial expressions may provide only a superficial indication of understanding, as expressions can be misleading and do not guarantee comprehension.
